Just Follow Lor
On two consecutive days, bounded by one night only, I've caught two flicks that came sizzling into our screens this CNY - "Just Follow Law" and "Dreamgirls".
One's a show about how some Singaporeans who everything also 'just follow law', and the other's about how three black girls who were told to 'just follow dreams' and make it big from background singers to singing artistes themselves.
The former, directed by everybody's favourite comedian and director Jack Neo, pokes fun at the various red tape and bureaucracy inefficiencies of the local government and the laws, office politics, as well as the inflexibility mindset of people who die-die everything must go 'Law by Law'.
It gave me the laughs because they depicted things that do actually happen in the real society and for some you might find them familiar. Examples:
- Finishing work on the dot at 5pm and any tasks assigned after that will not be entertained.
- The need to go through all that troublesome admin procedure just to get one simple job done.
- The use of emails by people to shoot here, shoot there, expressing their displeasure over matters. (Which kind of reminded me of a recent similar case).
- Wayang-ing
- Learn how to cover own backside.
By the way, if you still remembered in the show the old Auntie who went for computer lessons and set up her own blog, the blog really do exist! Hahaha.

Now coming to the latter, "Dreamgirls" was good.
Jennifer Hudson did such a great performance that I nearly forgotten Beyonce was in it also, especially in the first part of the show. No wonder there was so much hype about rivalry between she and Beyonce.
But the girls were all great in their own ways and they all looked so diva-licious! Especially in those swinging 60s mod styles they were dressed in. So retro and glam.
The only thing is that, the singing gets a bit noisy sometimes because of the too much diva's voice screaming. And for some scenes I thought I was watching Beyonce's other flicks, "Goldmember" and "Pink Panther". Felt some sense of similarity.
