Who says I'm just a MAG-niac?
Well I confessed that I'm an avid magazine-lover, who reads them most of the time so that I can get to pick up one or a few tips on how to become the next fashionista, or being offered love/sex advices from Aunt Agony columns; or even then to update myself with the latest hottest gossips in town or read synopses of the current primetime drama, if I'm eager to find out what's going to happen in the next episode ... But hey, I do have my fair share in reading decent good books ya?
This can be judged by how I'm so particulary fond of reading books written by local authors like, Catherine Lim, Goh Sin Tub and Damien Sin, just to name a few. They can be anything, short-stories or novels, fiction or non-fiction. I enjoy reading stories, like theirs, which are set in Singapore and discussed a variety of issues that are relevant to our present day and age, with a bit of local humour added at times.
Ok anyway, I had made a trip to the library today. Been some time since I last went and I seriously need some reading materials to save myself from decomposing at home. I was to go to Ang Mo Kio Community Library (obviously the nearest one), when, thanks to my mum, she reminded me of the recent and newest one over at Bishan. That's how I made a detour. Afterall it wasn't far, just a MRT stop away.
Other than being new and cool-looking in its layout and structure, everything else just remains the same. What you see in typical libraries - shelves and shelves of books, borrowing stations, information and computer counters, a cafe, reading tables (more like mugging tables), activity rooms and noisy kids running all about at the Children's section. Anyway what will be more concerning to me is the variety and freshness of their book collection.
I left the library quite a happy man as I managed to borrow some books which are newly-released in bookstores. I love it when you don't need to fork out a single cent and can borrow such new books from libraries. Then again, it depends a lil' bit of luck to find what you want sometimes.
