curse of the golden flower
There are so many nice movies this Christmas season and I can only make time for one - "The Curse of the Golden Flower".
I was actually deciding between "The Curse" or "Night At The Museum" to sum up as my last movie for the year. And I chose the former because, I think once in a while we should show support for Asian directors.
Well, the show was just fine for me. At least I can understand what it's going on, compared to previous Zhang Yimou's shows like "Hero" and "House Of Flying Daggers". But I do had a hard time concentrating because, the seats (at Golden Village) are so uncomfortable that my bum hurts. I keep tossing and turning, feeling so impatience. Plus, I had sitting around me are some rather funny folks who laughed over minor things, like Gong Li as the Empress just throwing a towel on the floor, and who screamed at their top of their voices when someone only just got assassinated or killed. I wonder since when it became a horror movie.
The show possess a lot of astounding factors though - The use of so many thousands of Chrysanthemum flowers and they seem to have unlimited supply of it; Poisoning of the Empress by psychotic Emperor, Chow Yun Fat; The Empress's affair with the first Crown Prince; The really cleavage-revealing dressing of those imperial court ladies; None of the three princes survive in the end.
But I was more astounded by the efficiency of those imperial court cleaners who cleans up the whole bloody mess of dead warriors and flowers after a big showdown between two groups of armies. The SAF really needs this kind of people for area cleaning.
Right at the same time, the Curse of the Torrential Shower is still going on. And because of that, a BBQ with my MDIS mates this Friday have to be cancelled.
