We Ride
This is so frustrating. Just when I thought the haze situation for the past two days has more or less subsided, it's now back on running its smoking business for the second Saturday in a week. Shucks. While then, at least it's not as worst as last weekend when the PSI (Pollutants Standard Index) escalates to an all-year high of 150 and I nearly got suffocated by the polluted air.
Not allowing it to spoil our weekend getaway mood, the trio of us - me and my two Secondary School buddies, Leow and Pei Sun - decided to brave against the haze and continued with our plan - of going for a ride on a CABLE CAR.
The last and also the first time I sat inside a cable car was ages ago, dating back to when I was in Primary Six in 1997 (the year which also faced serious haze problems). It was part of an post-PSLE excursion trips that my school had organised and it's one experience I'll always remember because of an amusing incident that happened along the way.
As far as I can recalled, me and my classmates were seated inside the moving cable car, and some of us got quite worried and scared because we're like travelling so high up in the sky and with the 1983 cable car tragedy that keeps reflecting in our minds. At one point, for don't know what reason, all the cable cars suddenly came to a halt in the middle of its path and all of us started to panick and screaming like we're being trapped! It got even scarier when the whole cabin becomes shaky as it dangles in the mid-air and we tried to stable it by sitting as still as possible. Of course, the cable cars finally resumed operation thereafter, but I believed that was an unforgettable cable car ride to all of us.
As for now, I'm not too sure if those cable cars still stop in mid-way, but it definitely did not occur during my second trip this time round. Rather than frightening, in fact I find the whole ride pretty fun as we enjoyed the beautiful scenary outside (though slightly covered by the haze) and taking pictures with our camera phones.
Started off from Harbourfront Cable Car Tower, we took the ride to Sentosa, crossing the Singapore Cruise Centre and the waters of Keppel Channel and had a bird's eye view of the Lost Civilisation and Ruin City which is said to be rather artificial and lame. Then it U-turns back to Mount Faber, before ending at right where we started.
